Problem in Progress: Web Development Era

2011 is only a month old and a new phase of the internet has been picking up steam, Web 2.0 is the name. The heyday of what I will call "long form internet engagement" is seemingly sprinting into the rearview mirror. What was once forums, blogs, and custom HTML sites all anchored around text-based content is being usurped by truncated, media-heavy, bite-sized chunks. Blogging downsized to mini then microblogs. The custom personalization of Myspace has long been dead, replaced by uniform "stalk engage everyone else" Facebook. The idea of individualized forums has been rolled into "forum aggregator sites" like Reddit. Youtube, presentation and interaction-wise, flat-lined at its original execution level.

Looking around I feel a bit disappointed and annoyed. Much of it is just ads and spam and trolls. Then of course there's the memes; it all mixes together to the point where the meter quickly swivels from interesting and entertaining to obnoxious and tired. Yet my biggest gripe is that the main draw of the internet, interaction, is the least developed. "Social" is the buzzword yet it would be more accurately called "Spam and Siphon" in the vein of some sort of satirical military operation; I mean, billions of dollars are being tossed around and yet comment threads still don't do nesting properly. How's that even possible?

I figure I can do better. Well...honestly, it's not even that, I just want to catch a glimpse of what I thought would be the "Internet of the Future!". So I open a text editor and prepare to find out what's possible.
